Reclaiming Resilience

A workforce and leadership program for the people carrying public health through crisis.

Reclaiming Resilience supports harm reduction and public health professionals navigating chronic stress, grief, moral injury, and relentless change.

Through shared learning, reflective coaching, and practical nervous-system regulation tools, participants build more sustainable ways of working and leading—without being asked to become better at surviving harmful conditions.

Bring Reclaiming Resilience to your organization

“Push through” isn’t a workforce strategy.

Harm reduction and public health workers are operating inside extraordinary pressure: chronic urgency, overdose loss, community trauma, unstable funding, policy shifts, understaffing, and impossible workloads.

Many also experience moral injury: the distress that can arise when people are forced to act against their values or witness harm they cannot prevent.

These conditions affect bodies, relationships, communication, decision-making, and organizational culture. Reclaiming Resilience helps people understand those effects as physiological, relational, and structural realities—not personal deficits.

Designed around your workforce

Reclaiming Resilience can be adapted for frontline and peer workers, managers and supervisors, leadership teams, technical-assistance providers, coalitions, or mixed-role groups.

Organizations can engage through:

Introductory workshops

Focused, experiential sessions introducing burnout as a systems injury, nervous-system regulation, and practical tools for interrupting reactivity.

Multi-session cohorts

Facilitated learning and coaching experiences that give participants time to practice, reflect, build shared language, and integrate changes into their work.

Customized organizational engagements

Tailored learning arcs for a particular team or workforce, including distinct spaces for staff, leadership, advisory groups, or mixed-role cohorts.

Reflective practice and integration

Follow-up coaching, facilitated reflection, or office hours that help participants continue practicing and help organizations translate insight into workplace culture.

Programs are available virtually or in person. Scope, duration, audience, and content are shaped with each organization.

Investment is based on scope, audience, format, and organizational capacity. Proposals may include tiered options to help organizations identify the right level of engagement.

What the program supports

  • Recognize stress activation and protective responses earlier
  • Expand capacity for regulation, reflection, and intentional choice
  • Strengthen communication and decision-making under pressure
  • Develop clearer, more sustainable boundaries
  • Build shared language around burnout, grief, capacity, and recovery
  • Reduce isolation and strengthen connection
  • Identify structural conditions being carried as individual burdens

Developed through real-world practice

Reclaiming Resilience grew from Circles of Resilience, a four-session virtual series supported by NASTAD through the CDC-funded Centers of Excellence in Harm Reduction project. First launched in summer 2025, the work has since expanded into:

An eight-session Reclaiming Resilience cohort
A customized cohort for the Massachusetts Harm Reduction Workforce Coalition
Role-specific workforce sessions tailored for Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program
Organizational applications for teams navigating grief, pressure, leadership strain, and systemic change

The curriculum continues to evolve through participant experience, facilitator reflection, emerging evidence, and the changing realities of the field.

Your people don’t need another message about being strong.

They need language for what they are holding in silence, practices that work inside real conditions, and room to recover, reconnect, and choose differently.
